As some of you may know, I’m the proud father of two adult children. Justin is thirty- eight and lives two blocks from us in this small Vermont town. Jessica is 47 and lives in a group home in Yonkers, NY. Both are the wonders of my life. We often see Justin and his wife, Abbey, because they’re the reason we moved up here from Westchester County, NY. The family unit has now expanded to include our two marvelous grandchildren, Lucy Lola (going on six) and Michael Magnus ( relishing his fourth year).
Jessica came into our family after a difficult birth and is one of those exceptional individuals you meet on your life's journey. She’s needed lots of support in her life, challenged by motor and cognitive disabilities, but has persisted despite what she has faced. I’ve written a book about Jessica and her family that was shared in Exceptional Parent Magazine in serialized form.
The serialization of “Are You Happy? Lessons Learned from Living with an Exceptional Person” is now complete! Thank you for sticking with me as I recounted our story, and I truly appreciate the wonderful opportunity that Exceptional Parent Magazine has given me to share it with all of you.

My next step is to tweak the content (writing this over two years has been a humbling experience, and I now see so many ways I could have explained things better and more succinctly). When this “tweaking” exercise is complete, I’ll compile the words and pictures into a PDF that you’ll be able to download for FREE, here on my Plastic Learning site. My goal with “Are You Happy?” is to let parents know that they’re not alone on this unique parenting journey. We can all learn from our experiences, and I’ve had many!
